ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) - Good for the goose, good for the gander, but not so good for the Elizabeth City waterfront.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reports (http://bit.ly/tERxzD ) that town leaders are now working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on a plan to control the booming population of geese in waterfront parks.

As many as 80 geese have been counted at a single time. They leave excessive amounts of droppings and are devouring grass in the parks.

Parks and Recreation Director Bobbi White said the first step is to ban the feeding of ducks and geese in the parks. She's not thrilled about that, because feeding the birds is a popular activity for children.

But White says the population needs to be reduced by half to prevent damage to the parks.
