Xe, Camden Co. settle dispute about back taxes

Economy - Hundred Dollar Bills

CAMDEN, N.C. (AP) - Subsidiaries of a company that operates a military training facility will pay Camden County half the $3 million the county said was owed for property taxes.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reports (http://bit.ly/sDF0LS) that subsidiaries of Xe (zee) Services will pay more than $1.5 million.

County attorney John Morrison says the settlement was reached after the companies provided more details on some aircraft, showing they had been never been based in Camden County.

Morrison says the county also determined that two ships didn't belong to any of the Xe subsidiaries that were billed.

The settlement was reached in late October between the county and subsidiaries of Xe, which previously was known as Blackwater.

The companies have indicated they plan to pay in the coming month.
