Clara, Herr Drosselmeyer, the Mouse King, the Nutcracker Prince, and the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy all take the stage this December bringing Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet to life in three performances to benefit the children of eastern North Carolina.
This spectacular production by Dance Arts Theatre of Greenville joins professional dancers from Carolina Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, New York City Ballet, and young members of the community with the Eastern Symphony, under the direction of Jorge Richter. Sherryl Tipton, Artistic Director of Dance Arts Theatre, has coordinated three masterful performances which offer children and their families a magical journey to a place where toy soldiers come to life and the Sugar Plum Fairy welcomes a young girl to the land of candy and sweets.
Since 2001, Dance Arts Theatre has raised thousands of dollars for the University Health Systems of Eastern Carolinas Children’s Hospital, having achieved the status of Distinguished Donor. For the eleventh straight year, proceeds will go directly to The Children’s Miracle Network to benefit programs and services for the Children’s Hospital and the 29 counties the hospital serves.
Performances are set for Saturday, December 10th at 2:00pm and 7:00pm and Sunday, December 11th at 2:00pm at Wright Auditorium on the campus of East Carolina University. Ticket prices are $25 for students and $30 for adults. Groups of 20 or more can benefit from group rates. Tickets go on sale November 10th; please call ECU Central Ticket Office at (252) 328-4788 or 1-800-ECU-ARTS. Historically, both matinee and evening performances sell out quickly.
Enjoy the magic of the season with family and friends… and you too will believe that Christmas trees really grow and toy soldiers do come to life.
