CURRITUCK, N.C. (AP) - Hunters using the new waterfowl blinds on North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission land in Currituck County can thank a local shop teacher and his students.
The commission says two of the four blinds in Currituck Sound were destroyed by Hurricane Irene. They weren't rebuilt by seasoned contractors or experts, but by Currituck High School shop teacher Jeff Rhodes and his students.
Rhodes says it was easy to get students motivated to work on the projects in time for hunting season. He says many of them hunt, and have helped build waterfowl blinds used by their families.
He says the work is also good preparation for the class' more advanced project this year: building a three-bedroom house.
