ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) - The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Northeastern North Carolina is trying to raise $350,000 to move to a new, larger location in Pasquotank County.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported (http://bit.ly/pUUgOt) that the SPCA has paid $300,000 for a warehouse and more than 3 acres of land. It needs the additional money to renovate the 6,000-square-foot building.

The president of the SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina says staff will be able to separate healthy animals from sick ones in new space. President Kim Parrish says the facility also will have rooms for feral cats and pregnant animals.

The SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina is a private, nonprofit organization that provides animal shelter services in Pasquotank through a contract with the county.
