ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) - The district attorney in Perquimans County says he expects action soon on an investigation into conditions at a kennel where 90 animals were seized this summer.
The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported (http://bit.ly/r0uhBh) that District Attorney Frank Parrish says he's meeting with people about the case.
Parrish commented Monday after hearing from animal rights groups. The state director for the Humane Society of the U.S. said she's frustrated that no charges have been filed since the raid happened in late July.
The HSUS said the rescued dogs were found packed in small wire feces-encrusted cages, many with severely matted fur and other health problems.
Robin Hardesty, who operated Joyful Blessings Kennels, has said she got behind on grooming but that conditions weren't as bad as investigators said.
