CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A 26-year-old Conover woman is accused by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police of tampering with her 5-month-old daughter's intravenous line at a local hospital.
Ladonna Kaye Parlier of Conover is charged with five counts each of felony child abuse and misdemeanor child neglect. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called to Carolinas Medical Center to investigate accusations of child abuse against an infant who was hospitalized there. Police said that on Wednesday, they caught Parlier on surveillance video abusing her child. Detectives said she pulled a syringe from her daughter Naomi's IV line, then injected an "unknown substance" into the IV. Police are testing the IV line and the bag.
Ladonna Parlier is being held in the Mecklenburg County jail under $137,500 bond. It wasn't known Friday if she has an attorney. (Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
