Woman hits pedestrian lying in middle of road

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Troopers are investigating a pedestrian found lying in the middle of a major Pitt County highway.

It happened early this morning around 1:15  U.S. 264 alternate near Porter Town Road.

Troopers say Anita Fenner was driving the car that hit a woman lying in the road.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene, but troopers tell us they aren't sure if the pedestrian was already dead or was killed on impact.

Troopers haven't identified the victim.  They say the investigation is on-going.
