JACKSONVILLE, N.C.- Valentine's Day is only hours away, but no one is feeling the strain more than local florists trying to get orders out for the big day.
Chocolates and stuffed animals are great symbols of affection, but nothing says "I love you" like a boquet of roses.
Curtis Russell, owner of The Flower Shoppe says with more than 200 orders today and another 200 tomorrow, the toughest part of the holiday is getting all of the orders delivered.
"We've got 200 plus to go out tomorrow. We've cut off deliveries because I just can't handle anymore. I've got rented vehicles, I've got extra drivers. I've got extra designers over here."
Russell may be concerned about getting all of his orders delivered, but he's not worried about running out of flowers.
"We've got about 5000 roses in just to work with. so thatll keep us busy for a while."
April Showers Florists have been busy as well preparing for one of their biggest days of the year.
Despite having more than 200 orders to fill, Linda Littleton of April Showers says its not always easy making a profit on the holiday.
"People think we make a lot more money on Valentine's Day but we don't. Because the whole sellers go up on us. In fact we probably make the same as we regularly selling a dozen roses."
Traditionally roses are the way to go for Valentine's Day, but April Morton says specialty flowers are on the rise this year.
"People like the specialty flowers now. They really like flowers that are rare. The orchids, the rubrim lillies, the tropicals. And we really have tried to cater to that."
