PLYMOUTH, N.C. - Crews will assess the damage after a 'significant' fire at the Weyerhaeuser lumber mill.
It happened Tuesday afternoon.
About 5 trucks from Roper and the Plymouth Fire Department were called to the scene.
Nancy Thompson, a spokeswoman for the plant, called it a "significant" fire.
She said it was mostly contained around 3:45 Tuesday afternoon.
"Our first thoughts are that the fire began in the planer section of the mill but of course it's still too early to know for certain," said Thompson.
Investigators are still working on determining a cause and assessing damage inside the plant.
"We hope to conduct an in-depth assessment, investigation and be able to see exactly what the extend of the damage may be," Thompson said.
Fortunately, Thompson says no one was hurt.
"All the employees were safe and that's what matters most and we obviously would like to thank the local fire departments that responded quickly and help us," she said.
