GREENVILLE, N.C. - A local animal shelter will be seeing some changes over the next few months and that's good news for all animal lovers.
The Pitt County Animal Shelter recently received $10,000 in grant money from the ASPCA. That's money that'll go toward much needed renovations for the shelter and free vaccinations for pets in the area.
Director Michele Whaley says it's money that'll go a long way.
One of the changes Whaley has in mind: switching the cat and puppy rooms which will make it easier to access for potential adoptions.
Half of the money will also go toward free vaccinations for pets in the areas hardest hit by the economy.
"We want to focus the target on the animals that have never been to a vet and probably never will be able to see a vet," said Whaley.
The free vaccination clinics will start next month.
Whaley says she'll get help from local high school seniors with painting and volunteer work, but there's always room for more, you can call (252) 902-1725 to find out how you can volunteer.
