WILSON, N.C. – A Wilson County man is behind bars, charged with two counts of first degree murder of 61-year-old John Henry Little and 42-year-old Charlene Jones Leake.
The man in custody is 45-year-old Verna Lee Farmer.
Investigators say he was a “strong friend” of the female victim, but say they have yet to discover a motive behind the killing.
Both Little and Leake were found shot to death in their home around noon last Monday.
Law enforcement closed portions of Corbett Ave. in Wilson and worked through the night on the investigation.
They later found a firearm in an open field two miles from the home.
And though there is still more to be done in this case, Sheriff Calvin Woodard Jr. says it’s the first step toward closure for the families involved.
“It brings a lot of closure to the family to know that we actually stayed on the case made constant contact with the family and, again, prior to making the actual arrest we went to the family, spoke with them, making them aware of who we were going to arrest,” said Woodard.
Farmer is being held in the Wilson County Jail without bond. His next scheduled court appearance is March 6th.
