TARBORO, N.C. - A teenager is dead and three others are injured after they wrecked their car this weekend.

All four young men were 18 and attended Tarboro High School. Two of the young men were on the football team.

Troopers say the accident happened near the intersection of Shiloh Farm Road and Hwy 33.

Troopers believe Timothy Suggs, who was driving, fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a ditch.

He was taken to Vidant Medical Center and is in stable condition.

The front passenger, Timothy Dickens was reported to be out of the hospital.

In the back seat, William Ruffin is also at Vidant Medical in serious condition.

And officials say Randy Higgs, who was also in the back, died last night.

9 On Your Side talked with the Coach Jeff Craddock who says this is truly a community tragedy, “Tarboro is a tight knit community and whether its football players or athletes or Tarboro High School students or our entire community, we all pull for each other and its been a difficult time for everybody. Everybody’s taking it hard."

The halls in the school have signs up for the four young men with signatures and condolences.

Tarboro high student Cherelle Staton says the school hasn't been the same since the accident."I mean it's very quiet like, theres a lot of crying you got the crisis team, it's not the same tarboro high anymore."

And while they mourn the loss of Higgs, they community is staying hopefull the other young men will make a full recovery.

"I think it's prayer and everybody dropping beefing and everybody come together and be strong for everybody," said Staton.

"We'll get though this it's going to take time but its just a day by day and you have to do the best you can keep lifting up your prayers to God and put it in his hands and do the best we can down here to help each other get through it," said Craddock.
