KINSTON, N.C. - A former narcotics officer has been arrested for trafficking drugs.
Clay Keel was arrested on December 30th and taken to Lenoir County Jail by the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation.
He's charged with Trafficking in Heroin/Opium.
Keel was placed under a $250,000 bond and released the same evening.
He first started working for the Sheriffs Office in 1999 and resigned in 2011. Keel was promoted to Narcotics Detective in 2003.
The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office says his resignation was not related to his arrest.
