KINSTON, N.C. - A well known restaurant in the east is cleaning up after a weekend fire nearly burned it down.
Instead of the sweet smell of simmering food, Kinston's gourmet restaurant, Chef and the Farmer smells of smoke after a weekend fire.
The fire started Saturday morning and firefighters say it could have been worse. The friewalls kept the flames from spreading into the dining area and damaging the restaurants prized wine collection.
While the fire was obviously a huge setback for Chef and the Farmer, owner ben Knight says the toughest part of the re-opening process will be the clean up.
In December, Opentable.com named Chef and the Farmer as one of the country's top 100 restaurants.
While they haven't set a date for re-opening, Knight says the staff will work around the clock to get it up and running as soon as possible.
