NEWPORT, N.C. (WNCT) - Deputies struggled to arrested a Newport man who has a lengthy criminal past in the east. Sunday afternoon police dispatched an officer after a report of a suspicious man at the intersection of Roberts Rd and Highway 70.
Police say Offie Curtis Brown Jr. blocked the roadway and refused to move when the officer asked him to. They say Brown then went into a nearby Trade Mart and stole items from the store. Police say when an officer and assisting Sheriff’s deputy tried to arrest Brown, he became aggressive; breaking the mirror on the patrol car and kicking the deputy.
Police say Brown has a history of assaults on law enforcement and emergency workers. Brown is out on bond. His next court date is March 7th.
