NEW YORK (WNCT) -- There are more than half-a-million apps for the iPhone, so get yours out to check out what you've been missing.
Music, sports and photography; it seems like there's an iPhone app for everything. But when it comes to what apps people paid for in 2011, it's all about the games. Nine of the top 10 paid apps last year were games.
Angry Birds was by far the most popular app of 2011. Words with Friends comes in second. That's a game based on scrabble that you play against another iPhone user. Slicing strategy game Fruit Ninja is number three. Camera Plus is the only non-gaming app in the entire Top 10. It adds features to the iPhone's camera like zoom and filters. In fifth is Where's my Water? Players help a sewer-dwelling
alligator find a shower.
With 800 million active users of its website worldwide, Facebook topped the social networking category. The company also unveiled its long awaited iPad app this year. Skype was another popular pick in the social networking category last year.
As for sports, ESPN’s Score Center was the top free downloaded app for iPhone users. Pandora was tops in music, as it has been since 2008. Craig's List Mobile was the top free business app.
