JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - Nine on Your Side talked with veterans in Jacksonville to get their take on the topic.
Many of the veterans we talked with at the VFW in Jacksonville, spoke to us on the condition of anonymity.
One man said he felt the biggest crime of the situation is the fact the people involved recorded it. As far as the act itself, he didn’t see anything wrong with it at all.
Several others including retired Marine John George questioned the validity of the video entirely.
“You can doctor films, no matter what it is, you can take your head off and put someone else’s face on you,” said George.
For the sake of argument I asked George his reaction if the video turns out to be real.
“It’s stupid, vile and disgusting...dead or not enemy or not, you don’t urinate on somebody”
Other vets we talked with disagreed saying urinating on someone pales in comparison to the videos the Taliban released of U.S. troops, beheading them on tape.
George says while military members should be held to a higher standard, they’re still human and some people, regardless of military service, make poor choices.
He maintains those people are the exception, not the rule. And if this video is real…..
“If it’s real, court martial the folks,” says George.
