PEA ISLAND, N.C. (WNCT) – N.C. Department of Transportation officials say temporary lane closures start Wednesday near the Highway 12 temporary
bridge at Pea Island.
The closure is so crews can install protective measures to help prevent erosion near the bridge. It will last for about four to six weeks. The lanes will be closed from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m.
Officials say crews will work on realigning guard rails to bring in a crane. Crews will also put stones and retaining walls for erosion prevention. You are asked to be careful if you have to drive through the area.
So far, no long-term plan is in place to permanently fix parts of Highway 12 that were damaged during Hurricane Irene.
