WASHINGTON, N.C. - A Beaufort County bridge, destroyed in Hurricane Irene, will re-open today.
The repaired bridge over Huddy's Gut should make commuting in and out of the Hickory Point community much easier.
Since August, people who live in the area have been using a dirt road through PCS Phosphate as their only means to get to Hickory Point.
That slowed down help from getting to the area, leaving many people with nothing more than tents to live in for months.
Repairs cost the DOT more than $450-thousand.
The bridge will open to traffic no later than 3 o'clock this afternoon.
