WASHINGTON, N.C. - A woman wanted for a vehicle crash and possible domestic assault is accused of biting a deputy in the face and spitting at others.
It happened January 24th on Old Blouts Creek Rod in Chocowinity.
Deputies say when 25-year-old Ashley Dawn Couch was detained for suspected driving while impaired, she became combative and attempted to damage the inside of a Trooper’s vehicle. She was then taken to a county patrol vehicle with a prisoner barricade where Couch allegedly began to spit on the deputies.
A search of her wrecked vehicle yielded cocaine and other drug paraphernalia inside.
After she was taken to Beaufort County Medical Center, where blood was drawn to determine if any impairing substances were in her system, she allegedly bit a deputy on the left side of his face and spit at others as they attempted to transport her to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
Couch was charged with Felony Assault on a Government Official, Malicious Conduct by a Prisoner, Possession of Schedule II, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. State Troopers also charged Couch with Driving While Impaired.
She was placed in the detention center under a $42,000 secured bond.
