WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A chained up dog got a new “leash” on life Saturday.
Thanks to a group called “Freedom for Friends”, Yogi the dog can now roam more freely.
The Washington-based volunteer group builds fences for dogs that live their lives on chains.
Freedom for friends raises money to pay for all the materials for the fences. They also pay to have the dog spayed and neutered and get its vaccinations.
Founder, Brenda Rogers said the groups mission is to give the dogs a safer life, while giving families a place to interact with their pet at the same time.
"Dogs on chains are not safe. You hear about children getting bitten all the time because they walk too close to the dog. Dogs on chains get attacked by other dogs because they have nowhere to go,” said Rogers.
