NEW BERN, N.C. - A neighborhood's fight against a controversial deer came to an end today in Craven County.
Emerald Isle's Lands End subdivision was the Lone hold out in the town's sacntioned bow hunts to control the deer population.
The hunt began on January 17th, but a lawsuit filed by Lands End residents against the home owner's association, kept the hunt out of the neighborhood until the case could go to court.
The hunt was slated to take place in the common areas of the subdivision, which residents argue would make the neighborhood unsafe.
Toni Winchester supports the hunt. Her son contracted Lyme Disease after being bitten by a deer tick back in 2008
Pat Palamieri is against the hunt. He found an arrow stuck in his deck during the 2010 hunt.
Judge Ben Alford ruled that the home owners could not seek a permanent injunction against deer hunting in the subdivision.
Hunts will proceed as scheduled from five o'clock in the morning to 10 o'clock in the morning on school days.
