GREENVILLE, N.C. - A Pulitzer Prize winning editor has been named interim adviser to The East Carolinian, ECU's student-run newspaper.
Frank Barrows, former managing editor for the Charlotte Observer, will serve as interim adviser.
He'll serve in a consultant advisory role that oversees the day-to-day publication and online needs of students. Barrows begins work on February 6th.
“We continue to show our support for our students at The East Carolinian and providing a skilled, trusted resource to advise them has been a high priority,” said Dr. Virginia Hardy, vice chancellor for student affairs.
Barrows appointment follows the dismissal of Paul Isom, who was let go after the newspaper published full-frontal nude photos of a streaker that took the field at a November football game.
Isom's dismissal led to an inquiry into his firing and the impact it might have on First Amendment rights of student journalists at ECU by The College Media Association and other groups.
