RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Jeremy Synan tripled home a pair of runs, and Marcus Jones and Schaeffer added RBI hits to lead North Carolina State to an 18-6 beating of Wake Forest and a doubleheader sweep on Sunday.
Synan belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning of the first game, and Chris Schaeffer added a solo shot in the bottom of the second to lead the Wolfpack to a 14-4 victory in the opener.
Eric Surkamp (2-2) worked five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits in the opener for N.C. State (20-9, 8-6 Atlantic Coast Conference). He struck out a career-high 10. Starter Charlie Mellies (0-3) took the loss for Wake Forest (12-18, 5-9).
N.C. State posted eight runs in the third inning on eight hits in the nightcap to take control. Eryk McConnell (4-1) pitched five innings to pick up the victory. Brad Kledzik (1-3) failed to get out of the third inning, surrendering seven earned runs on nine hits.
