CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina quarterback T.J. Yates is throwing again for the first time since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.
Yates started all 12 games as a redshirt freshman last year before suffering what coach Butch Davis described as "tissue trauma" in his right shoulder.
Yates had arthroscopic surgery in December, which had his arm in a sling for a month. But Yates was cleared Monday to start throwing again, allowing him to make some light tosses before the Tar Heels' spring football scrimmage.
Meanwhile, coach Butch Davis used Mike Paulus -- who redshirted as a freshman last year -- and Cam Sexton, who will be a junior next season, at quarterback during the afternoon's scrimmage.
