SONOMA, Calif. (AP) - The IRL circuit is in California for Sunday's Grand Prix of Sonoma, where points leader Scott Dixon is the favorite.
Dixon won last year's race at Infineon Raceway by taking advantage of Dario Franchitti's (fran-KEE'-teez) misfortune. Franchitti was dominating the 80-lap race until he collided with teammate Marco Andretti on lap 69.
Dixon has dominated the ovals this year, winning five times and posting all of his top-5 finishes on such surfaces. He seeks his second straight victory and seventh of the season, two weeks after passing Helio Castroneves (kas-troh-NEH'-vehs) on the final turn at Kentucky Speedway.
Castroneves is familiar with runnerup status this year having finished second seven times. He is second in the driver standings, 78 points behind Dixon with three races remaining.
