CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - The latest renewal of the North Carolina State-North Carolina basketball rivalry wasn't even close. Deon Thompson and Ty Lawson each scored 16 points as the top-ranked and unbeaten Tar Heels scored 25 straight points in the first half of a 92-63 victory over the Wolfpack.
Danny Green added 13 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and Tyler Hansbrough had 13 points and 13 rebounds as for the Tar Heels, whose 17th victory matches the start by the 1997-1998 team. They overwhelmed a Wolfpack team picked to finish third in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
N.C. State's downfall was its first-half shooting. Trailing 16-11 midway through the first half, the Wolfpack missed 18 straight shots and went scoreless over a 10-minute stretch as the Tar Heels built a 30-point lead.
