(AP) - The defending NFL champion Indianapolis Colts have been eliminated from the playoffs. San Diego, playing much of the game without stars LaDainian Tomlinson and Phillip Rivers, beat the Colts in Indianapolis 28-24.

Tomlinson left the game in the second quarter with a bruised left knee while quarterback Rivers was injured late in the third quarter.

Before leaving, Rivers had thrown for three touchdowns. His counterpart, Peyton Manning, passed for three scores as well but was picked off twice. Tomlinson was replaced by Billy Volek, who ran for the go-ahead score.

The Chargers advance to next Sunday's AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
