(AP) - The San Diego Chargers have earned a berth in the AFC Championship game by downing the Colts 28-24 at Indianapolis. Backup quarterback Billy Volek put the Chargers ahead to stay by scoring on a 1-yard run with 4:50 remaining, capping an eight-play, 78-yard drive.
The Chargers will head to Massachusetts to take on the New England Patriots at Foxborough next Sunday.
The New York Giants knocked off the Cowboys 21-17 at Texas Stadium to earn the right to face the Packers in the NFC Championship game at Green Bay next Sunday. Brandon Jacobs provided the go-ahead touchdown run with 13:29 remaining before the Giants' defense kept Dallas scoreless the rest of the way.
The Cowboys end the year with their fifth straight postseason loss after entering the playoffs 13-and-3, including two wins over the Giants.
