ECU football players continue to rack up the accolades. Pirate junior Dwayne Harris is the latest to earn honors; he's Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year. Harris is the second pirate in three years to win the award as a kick returner; Chris Johnson won it back in 2007. Houston Quarterback Case Keenum was named Conference USA’s Most Valuable Player. UAB Quarterback Joe Webb is Offensive Player of the Year and UCF Defensive End Bruce Miller earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Pirate fans are getting their tickets to Memphis to watch East Carolina take on Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 on January 2. You can catch the game on ESPN. Another pirate player is earning high marks. Michael Brooks was named to Conference USA’s All-Freshman team. Brooks is the 12th pirate in the last four years to make the team. The Roxboro native played in 12 games this year, racking up 23 tackles and three and a half tackles for loss.
Safety Van Eskridge's season won't be over after the Liberty Bowl. Eskridge was selected to participate in the 85th annual Shrine Game. The senior intercepted the pass in the end zone with a minute left in the pirates' victory over Houston last weekend. Seven ACC players were selected as well. The East-West Shrine Game is scheduled for January 23rd.
