RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Flood watches have been issued for much of North Carolina ahead of a storm system that could bring up to 3 inches of rain in some areas.
Watches were issued through Thursday night by the National Weather Service for counties in the western and piedmont areas of the state.
The weather service said as the storm system moves out, colder air will flow into the state and produce snow late Thursday and early Friday in the mountains. Accumulations of a half inch of snow in valleys and up to 2 inches at higher elevations are possible.
The storm system spawned severe weather in Mississippi and Alabama, and heavy rains in Tennessee on Tuesday.
