RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A stationary front was expected to dump significant rainfall on North Carolina before a storm approaching from the Gulf of Mexico added the threat of thunderstorms and tornadoes.
National Weather Service meteorologist Phil Badgett said the front over North Carolina and Virginia Wednesday night was expected to drop between 1 and 4 inches of rain across the western two-thirds of both states.
Badgett said the storm coming from the gulf will move across central North Carolina on Thursday, bringing a chance of severe weather along and east of a line from Charlotte to Raleigh and north to Richmond, Va. The threat will last throughout the day and into the early evening.
The storm system spawned severe weather in Mississippi and Alabama, and heavy rains in Tennessee on Tuesday.
