Snow and cold weather continues in northwestern mountains

»  Comments | Post a Comment

(AP) - Blowing snow and cold weather continues across the mountains of northwestern North Carolina this morning.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia, says the winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. for elevations above 3,000 feet. That includes Ashe, Watauga and Grayon counties.

Forecasters say an additional one to two inches of snow is expected through the morning, with higher amounts across Mount Rogers and Snake Mountain.

Winds of 15 to 20 miles an hour will create areas of blowing snow with reduced visibilities.

The winter storm warning has been canceled in other parts of the mountains of North Carolina.

But wind chills are brisk throughout the state this morning.
