Forecasters predict more rain for West Coast battered by storms that have left 3 dead

»  Comments | Post a Comment

(AP) - Snow is piling up in the Sierra Nevada because of a winter storm that has left at least three people dead in the West.

Forecasters predict more rain and snow in the region today, but they say it will be much lighter than in recent days. Still, winter storm warnings are still in effect for some mountainous areas.

However, a nearly 100-mile stretch of Interstate 80 through the Sierra that closed due to blizzard conditions is open again.

Heavy snow is expected to pick back up again in Northern California on Tuesday, when another couple feet could drop in the Sierra Nevada.

People in Southern California are being warned about possible mudslides on rain-soaked hillsides that were charred by wildfires.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared emergencies in three California counties battered by the storms.
