(AP) - At least three people are dead and nine more are missing as a result of a winter storm that has dropped as much as 11 feet of snow in parts of the West.

Thousands of homes and businesses are without power after the storm ripped down nearly 500 miles of power lines and hundreds of poles. It could be days before all the electricity is back on.

Six snowmobilers and two skiers are missing in the mountains of southern Colorado.

A hiker has disappeared in snow-covered mountains in Southern California.

A ski resort near Lake Tahoe reports it's had about 11 feet of snow since the weather system started pounding the region last week.

Part of Fernley, Nevada, is still underwater from a canal break Saturday. And because of the cold, the water is freezing instead of draining.
