(AP) - Storms that pummeled parts of nation's midsection with tornadoes and flooding this week are making their way east.
At least 40,000 power customers in western New York are in the dark after thunderstorms ripped across the region overnight. Trees and power lines have been knocked down from Lake Erie to the Finger Lakes with gusts up to 75 miles per hour reported in Rochester.
Three people were killed in Indiana yesterday in flooding caused by a combination of heavy rain and melting snow that pushed rivers and streams over their banks.
The victims include two children trapped in a swamped SUV. Rescuers tried in vain to reach them.
On Monday, two people died as storms swept across five states. They've been fueled in part by unusually warm temperatures across much of the country.
