(AP) - At least two people are reported injured by powerful thunderstorms with heavy rain and possible tornadoes pushing across Mississippi.

There have been a number of reports of damage around the state, including schools and buses.

A police dispatcher in one area says it appears several barns at a dairy farm have been blown down.

The National Weather Service has posted severe thunderstorm and tornado watches for several counties.

A tornado watch has also been issued for western Alabama as the storms began moving into the state. The University of Alabama has suspended classes and the University of North Alabama shut down in Florence. Some public and private schools also closed.

And tornado warnings were posted in parts of Louisiana. Officials say high winds, possibly from a tornado, have knocked over vehicles and blown out windows. No injuries have been reported there, but more thunderstorms are expected in much of the eastern part of the state throughout the day.
