Nantou County, Taiwan--Floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon Sinlaku killed seven people in Taiwan, leaving another 13 missing and presumed dead, authorities said on Tuesday
The Disaster Relief Center said three bodies have been recovered on Tuesday from debris of a tunnel which collapsed under the weight of a massive landslide in central Taiwan.
On Monday, Taiwan Radio reported that four cars with an unknown number of passengers were buried in a tunnel hit by a mudslide in central Nantou county.
Workers were digging through the debris to rescue those trapped.
A woman was killed when a resort hotel was buried by mudslides in scenic Lushan in central Taiwan, the Disaster Relief Center said.
TV stations also showed rescuers helping residents in a remote tribe in central Taiwan to leave their flooded community.
The typhoon has also caused 15.6 (m) million US dollars worth of agricultural loss, according to Taiwanese authorities.
Sinlaku slammed into the northeast coast of Taiwan on Sunday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
Mountainous regions recorded more than 40 inches (100 centimetres) of rain, and several large rivers overflowed their banks, forcing authorities to evacuate hundreds of people.
Sinlaku, downgraded to a tropical storm, was centered at sea 130 miles (210 kilometres) north of Keelung on the northern tip of Taiwan on Monday evening, the Central Weather Bureau reported.
Moving northeast, Sinlaku would likely make landfall in southern Japan by Wednesday.
The storm dumped heavy rain in eastern China's Zhejiang and Fujian provinces on Monday, and authorities evacuated 460-thousand people, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported.
