CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (AP) - Emergency workers are building shelters for thousands of families along Mexico's coast as Hurricane Jimena threatens.
The Category 4 storm now has winds of 145 miles an hour. Forecasters say it could rake Mexico's southern Baja California peninsula by tomorrow evening.
Officials say at least 10,000 families will be evacuated from potential flood zones and 60 shelters are being set up.
But there are no plans to cancel an international conference that opens tomorrow at the southern tip of the peninsula. Delegates from around the world have already started arriving for the meeting sponsored by the Paris-based Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.
Jimena has already kicked up surf along the west coast of mainland Mexico and uprooted trees in one resort town (Zihuatanejo).
