Much colder air will take over this weekend. Wind chill values will be in the teens and single digits, and light snow showers will be possible for the Sounds.
SATURDAY: Cold air with arrive in full force on Saturday and with extra force Saturday night. Temps will fall throughout the afternoon. Highs will be near 50 during the early afternoon and in the upper 30s into the early evening. Expect winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Wind chill values will be in the upper 20s by Saturday evening.
WIND ADVISORY SATURDAY: A cold front affecting the region will produce very strong winds, especially along the coast. A Wind Advisory will be effective from Saturday evening until Sunday morning. Expect northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts near 45 mph. Consider loose outdoor items, as they will be easily tossed. Power outages will also be a possibility.
SHOT AT FLURRIES SATURDAY NIGHT: Very cold temps and a little moisture will help promote the chance of snow flurries Saturday night into early Sunday morning for the Sounds and the OBX. Flurries will have the potential to cover some grassy surfaces, but nothing more.
SUNDAY: Wind chill values will make temps near 40 feel more like the upper 20s and 30s throughout the afternoon.
High pressure will build back in Monday. Temps will move back into the 50s to start the week and increase into the upper 50s and lower 60s by the end of the week. Showers return on Valentine’s Day.
